Masks for Kenyan School Students
After the closure of schools for one year due to Covid, Many schools in Kenya started to open back up. The Kenyan government mandated that all children wear masks, yet did not provide masks to school students. For many schools serving the poorer communities, there was a great need for masks. We shared a need with our friends and family with a goal to raise $900 so as to provide students with 4 reusable masks. We partnered with Sot Technical Training Institute in Bomet, Kenya to sew reusable cloth masks at a cost of only 25 cents per mask.
Through the generosity of many of our friends and family we were able to accomplish below:
-
Total raised $551.
-
Masks made: 1900
-
Hand Washing stations: 4
-
Number of students and teachers: 900

Feeding impacted families from Covid-19 Lockdowns
Kenya along with other countries shut down, restricted movements, instituted curfews and closed all schools to limit the spread of Covid 19. Everything was closed and that affected trade of goods and services. For millions who live in urban slums or rural poverty, social distancing was not an option. Their livelihoods depended on daily face-to-face interactions. Things became dire for many people. We knew that any kind of help would be a drop in the bucket and even though the need was enormous, we knew any kind of help would positively affect a few people. We teamed up with our volunteer in Kenya where we bought maize meal, Rice, beans and sugar and delivered them to targeted people in need. Below is the summary of this initiative.
-
Total Spent $543.
-
Total pounds of food: 450 kgs or 992 pounds.
-
Families reached: 30
